About the PB&J Day School

About the Founders

Brooke Pate and Jennifer Walker, the founders and directors of the PB&J Day School, are sisters who share a love of working with children. As parents and certified elementary educators, they saw a need for a different kind of day school and so the idea of the PB&J Day School was born.

When Brooke's son was one, she taught three-year-olds for one year at a local MDO. After teaching at the MDO and touring other facilities, she didn't find any of the facilities to be suitable for her child. She met with Jenn and created a business plan for an academic preschool. It was first approved by Sun Trust Bank, but when the recession hit, they recalled the loan. We went from bank to bank, presenting our business plan and trying to secure our loan. Reliant Bank, a local institution, had faith in us, and has been behind us ever since. PB&J Day School has one of the highest enrollments among preschools, daycares and franchises in the area.

Brooke Pate holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Belmont University in Health and Elementary Education. She has taught kindergarten and preschool.

Jennifer Walker holds a Masters of Science degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in Curriculum and Instruction. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Learning and Behavior, Elementary Education and Psychology. She has taught first, third and fourth grades, and was a Title I Coordinator for the Nashville Metro School System.

Our Philosophy

We believe education should be relevant, inspiring and fun! We strive to provide a fully inclusive environment that fulfills each child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs, appropriate to their age and stage of development.

Parents are always welcome during the day, and we fully encourage you to become involved in your child’s school experience. Parents are also invited to participate in our workshops, which are conducted throughout the school year. These workshops focus on child development, behavior management and much more; we also welcome you to use our reference library, where you’ll find a fine assortment of books on children and their development. Parents are also invited to attend our Parent Socials. Through these year-'round socials, we encourage parents to get to know one another and to form friendships.

We strongly believe in parent-teacher communication, and we practice this in many forms: personal conferences, email, phone, the website, newsletters, notes from school, bulletin boards, take-home folders, individualized logs of your child’s daily activities, and so much more.
